Bio

Graduated in Computer Science from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the New University of Lisbon (FCT-UNL) with a pre-Bologne style "licenciatura" (i.e. 5 years). Time during which I posted thousands of comments to the now historical portuguese "Slashdot" - Gildot - which can either be considered an interesting experience in an interesting community ("those were the days") or a monumental waste of time.

I've been a professional systems administrator and "scripter extraordinaire" (well, perhaps not that extraordinary) for the past 7 years, especially focused on Linux. However, the circumstances dictate that most of my time is spent managing Windows-based systems and proprietary databases (these, fortunately, mostly on unix). Alas, this is the business world we slowly try to change... with mixed success.

Over the years I've contributed random minor patches to assorted opensource projects, usually fixing bugs, and a couple of bigger ones. One bigger in a "work volume" sense, namely the initial and 100% complete portuguese translation for Firefox (up to version 1.0.8), and another in a "long lasting" sense as developer and maintainer of the "megatec" serial driver for the http://networkupstools.org project (up to last year).

I mostly like to code fun stuff for fun (usually in Python or Processing) and have an interest in microcontrollers (mostly Arduino) in a non-professional way.

A 30-year old geek, basically.
