Find your way with SAPO Mapas API
SAPO Mapas is reaching 1.5 million POIs in Portuguese territory.
The platform has a new API. This means that you can have all the quality of SAPO’s map, satellite and terrain images right on your website.
In this talk we’ll present the inner workings, advantages and possibilities of the JavaScript API. We’ll also demonstrate some functionalities such as:
- Navigating through over 200 categories of POIs;
- Drawing shapes over the map;
- Obtaining driving directions or displaying search results.
If you’re going to participate in the programming contest and want to use maps on your project or if you just can’t afford a GPS, you can’t miss this talk.

João Duarte currently works for SAPO in the GIS/Maps team, developing and maintaining the SAPO Mapas API and website.
Although he works with maps every day, he still needs a GPS everytime he gets behind a wheel.
His favorite language is C#, but this last year he's been turned into a JavaScript junkie and ninja wannabe. An optimistic by nature, the only thing that can really hurt his feelings is JSLint. (more)
André was born 23 years ago in Lisbon. The first word he said was Maps and the second was SAPO, but there was a two day gap between the two.
Now he works for SAPO in GIS/Maps Team, developing and maintaining the SAPO Maps API and website.
As a developer André likes to do things well. He’s interested for software design patterns and he likes to apply them on the managed world, using languages such as Java or C#.
André has some vertigo and when he’s developing SAPO Maps API or website he avoids using satellite or hybrid map mode on high zoom levels. (more)
