Widget Platform – tear the Web apart and assemble the pieces together
A citizen of many designations such as gadget, badge, module, webjit, capsule, snippet, mini and flake, the widget lives in several different mediums like the Web page, the desktop, the browser and the mobile phone. I believe that the "viral widget" is something of increasing interest to businesses and users as a portable medium for content and functionality encapsulation and distribution. Thus it enters the subject of open data formats, where lies the "develop once and goes ubiquitous" dream.
With the collaboration with the SAPO Spot team, and sponsored by SAPO, BeActive and Link Consulting, a widget platform is being built based on the UWA (Universal Widget API) standard developed by Netvibes. Here I will discuss some implementation details such as security and privacy enforcement of untrusted javascript code, cross-domain AJAX, widget environment for widget page services, widget packaging and distribution, and hopefully more.
