1000 Words on Digital Signage

Back in 2012 we posted about our custom digital signage solution, which we released as Open Source.

This year we're running a very tight calendar, so all we can share for now are a few bullet points... and a screenshot, which is the bulk of those 1000 words :)

  • In the true Web spirit, all the screens you see are HTML5 - SVG, web fonts, etc., using 3D CSS transforms and JavaScript-driven animation (even the live streaming screens are HTML5 atop a video tag). Everything feeds off the Codebits API, of course.
  • This year, we've gone Android - the client app (which we'll open-source soon) is a heavily tweaked WebView with a few extras, running on dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 boxes with 1GB of RAM (and, of course, GPU-accelerated graphics).
  • The admin console (which we'll open-source too) is an InK webapp that lets us manage the whole thing via drag-and-drop operations.
  • And, last but not least, nearly all the content is hosted on MEO Cloud (except a few videos that are, naturally, hosted on SAPO Vídeos).

The whole thing is cloud-based, and managed centrally to boot. And to give you an idea of what it looks like, here's that screenshot:

Once we've recovered from Codebits, we'll start putting it up on Github for you to play with :)
